2. Notice about security

Pay attention to your password. No one except you should know your password. Your password is like the key to your front door or like your VISA-card PIN. If anybody gets to know your password your ID can be abused and thus causes great damage for which you will have to take the responsibility. We will never ask you about your password too.

There are programs written to spy out other people's passwords, e.g. trying out each word of a dictionary systematically. To reduce the probability of any abuse of your password to the absolute minimum please change your password once in a year.
Always we will remind you to change your password by e-mail to your e-mail address at our service.

Only for staff: The first password for the HU-Account must been changed into 6 weeks.

3. Change your password

An e-mail automatically sent will remind you to modify your password four weeks before the expiry date. If you do not modify your password within the time limit your HU-Account will be suspended! If you change your password once and then back into the old one, the modification will be ignored. A password is accepted as modified only if it differs from the old one.

https://amor.hu-berlin.de/ → HU-Account → Passwort ändern bzw. reaktivieren

After the modification it will take some time to get your new password activated in all services. If you want to log in immediately after the password modification your new password may not have been activated yet. In this case please wait 20 minutes and try again.
If you enter a new password it will be tested: A crackable password, which is too simple, will not be accepted. Please keep the details at our www-site.

4. Resetting a password

If you are a student you can renset your password at this site

https://amor.hu-berlin.de/ → HU-Account → Passwort vergessen

All other people have to contact the user help desk.

5. E-mail

Your HU-Account includes a mailbox. Your address will be:

students: your_hu-account@student.hu-berlin.de

staff: your_hu-account@staff.hu-berlin.de

your_hu-account stands for your user identification. A secound address will be composed of your name. Both addresses are equivalent. If there is already a mailbox with your fore- and surname, your second e-mail-address runs as follows:

forename.surname.X@student.hu-berlin.de as the case may be forename.surname.X@staff.hu-berlin.de

with X standing for a number. This is possible if you have already another address at the HU. You will be informed about your definite second address per e-mail. Don't use the second address before.

You've got several possibilities to use your mailbox:

6. Access to the intranet

Here you can find any information about how you can access to the intranet of the HU with WLAN or VPN:

https://amor.hu-berlin.de/ → Netzzugang

7. Linux and file transfer

If you want to work with UNIX/Linux, please access our computer using a ssh (secure shell) connection. You may initiate a ssh-connection to the linux-server amor.cms.hu-berlin.de via a www-browser:

https://amor.cms.hu-berlin.de/ → Netzzugang → SSH2

You've got max. 50 GB to save personal data permanently in your home directory. The UNIX-command

quota -v

shows your actual memory cell occupancy. If you exceed the limits the system will not allow any more saving processes on your home directory. That can also lead to the fact that you cannot log in at the workstations and PC. Even copies of mails sent out of UNIX (e.g. with pine) cannot be filed in your sent-mail-folder. Try to erase redundant files like temporary work files by commanding cleanhome.

The very easy way to transfer data between a Unix-platform and the PC is achievable with WinSCP. The main goal of WinSCP is the secure transfer of data between a local computer and a remote computer, for example amor.hu-berlin.de. This program can be used for example to transfer a website data from a home computer up to the remote computer or simple to update a website on the remote side amor.hu-berlin.de. Informations about WinSCP you can find at this site:

https://amor.hu-berlin.de/ → Netzzugang → WinSCP
