ID Question Answer
TV_1

Is it allowed to require the installation of a SafeExamBrowser (for the test module in Moodle)?

(Technik, Lockdown Browser)

No. The SafeExamBrowser is currently being tested.
TV_2

Who regulates the compensation for disadvantages (NTA)?

(Technik)

The lecturers shall decide on the compensation for disadvantages as far as academic achievements are concerned, and the responsible examination board as far as examinations are concerned, upon application by the student. (cf. § 109 section 2 ZSP-HU)
TV_3

In what form can a disadvantage compensation (NTA) take place?

(Technik)

Compensation is made by determining a different date, an extended duration or processing time, a different location, a different form, the admission of auxiliary means or auxiliary persons or in another suitable way. The academic performance or examination to be taken must be equivalent (cf. § 109 section 1 ZSP-HU). If the student can credibly demonstrate that he or she does not meet the technical requirements, compensation for disadvantages will be granted in accordance with § 109 ZSP-HU (cf. § 107a section 7 ZSP-HU).
TV_4

Does the university offer support in the form of loan equipment and / or internet access (disadvantage compensation, NTA)?

(Technik)

Contact the faculty, which provides the appropriate technology if possible.
PA_1

What information do lecturers have to report to the examination office?

(Prüfungsanmeldung)

The examinations are decided by the examination board (PA) and/or faculty council for each semester. For this purpose, the examiners are requested in good time by the PA or examination office to provide the necessary information (form of examination according to the SPO, examination dates, etc.). According to § 96d ZSP-HU, deviations from the form of the final module examination specified in the subject-specific examination regulations may be permissible if an application is made due to an exceptional circumstance for which the examiner is not responsible and the consequences of which cannot be compensated in any other way. This application for a change in the form of the examination must be submitted to the PA in good time.
PA_2

By what time at the latest must lecturers or examiners determine and announce the form of the examination?

(Prüfungsanmeldung)

The form of the examination should be decided before the examination schedule is decided (before the start of the lecture period). If this is not possible, the students must be informed immediately after the form of examination has been determined. Section 96d (2) and (3) ZSP-HU applies.
PA_3

Is it permitted to offer forms of examination other than those specified in the module descriptions of the subject-specific study and examination regulations?

(Prüfungsanmeldung)

Yes, in exceptional circumstances: see § 94d ZSP-HU.
PA_4

Do students agree to the examination modalities when registering for the examination?

(Prüfungsanmeldung)

In principle, yes, as the general conditions (form, scope, etc.) are regulated in the subject-specific study and examination regulations. Currently (as of Jan. 2021), deviations may occur, as examinations may be offered digitally without changing the regulations.
PA_5

Are there any special arrangements for withdrawing from an exam due to technical problems during the COVID 19 pandemic?

(Prüfungsanmeldung)

Yes. If technical problems lead to the non-attendance of the examination and these can be made credible, the non-attendance is assessed as a permitted withdrawal. This means that registration, admission and the examination attempt are deemed not to have taken place (§ 107 Para. 2 Sentence 5 ZSP-HU) (cf. special rules for COVID-19).
PK_1

Do you have to create a separate exam course in Moodle for a (written) e-exam?

(Prüfungskurs)

Yes! A separate course in the (Moodle) course section for exams.
PK_2

How to create an exam course in Moodle?

(Prüfungskurs)

See: https://hu.berlin/moodlekurs-anlegen
PK_3

Is there a (technical) possibility to transfer students registered for exams via AGNES or POS into a Moodle exam course?

(Prüfungskurs)

No, not yet.
PK_4

How can students admitted to an exam be recorded in a Moodle exam course?

(Prüfungskurs)

Manual enrolment by course coordinators or self-enrolment by students, see for further information: Prüfungskurs (exam course)
PK_5

How can non-admitted students be prevented from entering a Moodle exam course?

(Prüfungskurs)

Since enrolment takes place before admission, this cannot and should not be prevented. Shortly before the exam, it is therefore necessary to compare the registration list from Agnes with the list of registered students in the Moodle course. To do this, open the student overview and click on the link "Show all xxx students" at the bottom of the list and select all students. Then select the export format (e.g. csv or xlsx list) in the pop-up menu next to "Persons ..." at the bottom of the overview. This will give you a table with first and last names and the mail address stored in the respective Moodle profile. After the comparison, you remove ineligible students from your examination course.
PK_6

Can examinees without an HU account be recorded in the Moodle examination course?

(Prüfungskurs)

If students are admitted to the examination, this is technically possible. However, if you want to use the HU account as proof of identity when logging in to Moodle, the procedure is unsuitable.
PK_7

How should examiners handle the examination course up to the examination date?

(Prüfungskurs)

You should definitely hide either the whole course or the sections that contain the actual exam, i.e. set them to invisible.
PK_8

How do examiners conduct a test run?

(Prüfungskurs)

Enter a student employee in the course as a participant or create a second test account (registration with an alternative mail address: https://hu.berlin/moodle-registration) and have him/her enter the course as a participant and take the test.
PK_9

How can disadvantage compensation (NTA) (e.g. a longer working time) be set up individually?

(Prüfungskurs)

A disadvantage compensation can be set up directly in the Moodle test or in the Moodle assignment per student. The option is "user modification" and refers to the allocation of a longer time for processing. Instructions: https://moodle.hu-berlin.de/mod/page/view.php?id=2382869 (Test) and https://moodle.hu-berlin.de/mod/page/view.php?id=2383753 (Assignment)
PK_10

How can examiners determine whether all examination candidates have registered with an HU e-mail address (HU account)?

(Prüfungskurs)

In the participant overview, you can export all participants in a list (table with first and last names and the email address stored in the respective Moodle profile) and then check the email addresses.
PF_1

How do you implement multiple choice with Moodle?

(Prüfungsform)

With the test module and question types: Multiple Choice with the option "Allow only one answer" ("Single Choice", Multiple Choice "All or nothing", Matching, Drag & Drop on text or on picture, Cloze).
PF_2

Is it allowed to work with malus points in multiple choice questions?

(Prüfungsform)

Minus or malus points may not be awarded across examination papers. The Department of Studies also strongly advises against deducting points for incorrect or unmarked answers in a specific question with multiple answer options. In any case, a maximum of 0 points may be awarded in any one task. The all-or-nothing method is to be preferred.
PF_3

How do you randomise tasks or questions for different exam versions (pool)?

(Prüfungsform)

Save the tasks that are to form random alternatives together in a directory in the question collection (see course settings: "Question collection" / "Categories" or "Questions"). If the students are to receive one of three alternative tasks for task 1, save these three tasks in the directory "Task 1", for example. If the same procedure is to be followed for Task 2, save the three alternatives for Task 2 e.g. in a directory "Task 2". Now click on the test that is to contain the random questions. Click on the wheel, then on Edit test content --> Add --> Add random question. Now select the directory from which the questions are to be drawn at random (in the example "Task 1"). Proceed in the same way for Task 2 and all other tasks that are to contain random questions.
PF_4

How do you randomise answers (selection order per question)?

(Prüfungsform)

In the settings of the test, it is set by default that the answers per question are arranged randomly. This can also be set separately for each question in the settings.
PF_5

How do I set a time limit in the test module (Moodle)?

(Prüfungsform)

In the settings of the test there is the section "Time". Here you can set the time window of accessibility of the test as well as the duration of the actual processing time, see also: https://moodle.hu-berlin.de/mod/page/view.php?id=2377940
PF_6

Should you allow jumping back and forth (in the navigation of the test in Moodle)?

(Prüfungsform)

Yes. A fixed question order is problematic if tasks (questions) have different levels of difficulty and/or completion times. With fixed navigation, you cannot allow students to answer first those questions that secure many points and/or that students also "know". When using random questions, student A might get the "easy" questions right at the beginning, while student B struggles with difficult questions at the beginning and might not have time to answer the supposedly easy questions at the end.
PF_7

How do you set the pass mark in multiple choice tests?

(Prüfungsform)

The setting for the pass mark is in the "Assessment" section.
PF_8

Are student employees allowed to enter / maintain the tasks in the pool?

(Prüfungsform)

Yes.
PF_9

Is it possible to include multimedia elements in the questions in Moodle?

(Prüfungsform)

Yes, wherever the editor is used, multimedia elements can be integrated with the functions there (image, video, H5P). However, H5P still causes problems in several places in test questions, so this tool should not be used in exams.
PF_10

How do I set the automatic submission of the exam in Moodle?

(Prüfungsform)

In the test settings, see: https://moodle.hu-berlin.de/mod/page/view.php?id=2377940
PF_11

Are intermediary results automatically saved in Moodle?

(Prüfungsform)

Text questions (task and test): the auto-save frequency for the editor is 30 seconds. All other question types directly in the test module are auto-saved 1x per minute.
PF_12

Is it possible to import questions from another course?

(Prüfungsform)

Yes, if you are enrolled in the other course with the role of course administrator, see: https://hu.berlin/moodle-kursimport
IS_1

Until when do lecturers have to inform students about the form of examination?

(Information an Studierende)

In principle, the information on examination forms is provided via the provision in the subject-specific examination regulations or, in the case of alternative forms, at the beginning of the examination semester (cf. § 96 section 11 ZSP-HU). Deviations are permitted if the examinations cannot be carried out in the intended form or the effort to carry them out would be disproportionate (cf. § 96d section 1 ZSP-HU). Students are to be informed immediately of any change decisions. If students have already registered and been admitted to the examination, they may withdraw their registration until immediately before the examination (cf. § 96d section 3 ZSP-HU).
TS_1

In which course should you do a test run of the exam?

(Testlauf der Prüfung)

A mock exam can be taken in the normal course section or in a separate course. Trial exam courses do not need to be created in the course area for electronic exams.
TS_2

How extensive should the test run minimally be?

(Testlauf der Prüfung)

It is important that the participants understand the process. The types of questions used and the organisational procedure should be gone through completely.

E_6

Is there a template for explaining what is regarded as attempted cheating?

(Erklärung)

There is a note under "Questions before the exam" that attempts at cheating lead to failing the exam. In principle, technical and above all content-related indications can lead to suspicion of cheating, which must be submitted to the responsible examination board for a decision.
T_1

How much time should one allow for the preliminary phase of the Closed Book procedure?

(Durchführung)

This depends on how many participants take part in the examination, what kind of identification and information about the examination rules are used and should be collected in a trial run.
T_2

How is an exam activated in Moodle?

(Durchführung)

On the one hand, the entire course can be set to be hidden from participants, see: https://hu.berlin/moodlekurs-sichtbarkeit. The real testing activities in the course can be linked via "prerequisites" (see: https://moodle.hu-berlin.de/mod/page/view.php?id=2342552) to the fact that the health and independence declaration, which again should only be made accessible shortly before the start of the examination, has been "successfully" completed beforehand. [After completing the exam, the course should be set to "hidden" in any case.]
T_3

Does it make sense to appoint a technology responsible for the duration of the exam in Moodle, Zoom, etc.?

(Durchführung)

Ideally, yes.
T_4

Should examiners or supervisors be available in Zoom for the duration of the examination?

(Durchführung)

It is recommended to provide a HU Zoom meeting room and a telephone number.
I_1

Can the identity be checked via Zoom?

(Identitätskontrolle)

Yes, this results from § 107a section 2 ZSP-HU. Identification via photo ID can be done bilaterally via the waiting room. Activation of the function by the examiners via Zoom (Login/ Profile/ Settings/ Meeting (Advanced)/ Other). The participants can only take part in the examination if the examiners give them permission to do so. Activating the waiting room deactivates the possibility of direct participation in the examination. Identification via photo ID with the help of video transmission technology is only one of the possibilities of identification mentioned in the ZSP-HU.
I_2

How can the identity of an examinee in an electronic examination be established in a legally secure manner?

(Identitätskontrolle)

Either the examinee is known personally or a photo ID is held up to the camera (§ 107a section 2 ZSP-HU).
I_3

May the identity check also be carried out during the examination?

(Identitätskontrolle)

Yes, the check can be carried out during the examination.
I_4
